FAQs

Surplus wire questions, answered plainly

What we buy, how pricing works, what to photograph and how a load moves out of your yard. If your question is not here, call (614) 715-3047.

What we buy

What kind of wire and cable do you buy?

Copper and aluminum electrical wire and cable: THHN, THWN, THWN-2, XHHW and XHHW-2 building wire; bare and insulated copper; grounding wire and welding cable; MC, AC, tray cable, VFD cable, TC/TC-ER, PLTC, SER, SEU, URD and USE-2; SOOW and flexible cable; control, instrumentation, communication and shielded cable; fire-alarm and low-voltage cable; and medium or high-voltage cable from 5kV through 69kV and above when the footage is documented.

Do you buy anything other than wire and cable?

No. This site is wire and cable only. We do not buy transformers, switchgear, breakers, motor control centers, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery, vehicles or general scrap. If a lot is mostly equipment with a little wire attached, describe the wire separately and send photos of that.

Do you buy partial reels and short lengths?

Yes. A partial reel is still worth quoting. Tell us the approximate footage on the tag, or measure across the coil and say so. Short lengths of heavy gauge or medium-voltage cable can still be useful; short lengths of common sizes may not survive the freight, and we will tell you that plainly.

Do you buy used or damaged cable?

We review it. Describe the condition honestly: pulled and re-reeled, sun-faded jacket, crushed flange, water in the wrap, cut ends, or damaged outer jacket with the insulation still intact. Photograph the damage. Condition changes the offer, and hiding it wastes everyone's time.

Do you buy aluminum wire as well as copper?

Yes. Aluminum building wire, SER and SEU, URD and USE-2, XHHW aluminum and aluminum medium-voltage cable all come through North Dakota yards. Aluminum is worth less per pound than copper, so footage, gauge and condition matter even more when we review it.

What sizes do you handle?

Everything from #14 branch-circuit wire up through 1000 MCM, including #14, #12, #10, #8, #6, #4, #2, #1, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0, 4/0, 250, 300, 350, 400, 500, 600, 750 and 1000 MCM. Mixed lots are fine as long as the types and rough quantities are listed.

Do you buy wire with no reel tag?

Yes. The printed jacket legend usually tells us the type, gauge, temperature rating and voltage class. Photograph the legend where it is readable, and note the manufacturer if it is printed on the reel flange. If the legend is worn off, a close photo of the conductor and insulation cross-section helps identify it.

How the process works

How do I get a quote?

Use the quote form and send the details with photos, or call (614) 715-3047. Give us the wire type, metal, gauge or MCM, voltage, conductor count, approximate footage or reel count, condition, packaging and the city and ZIP where the material sits. Photos of reel tags and jacket legends do most of the work.

How is surplus wire priced?

Pricing comes from the material itself: metal and recovery yield, gauge, insulation and jacket type, voltage class, conductor count, actual footage, condition and packaging, then the cost of getting it from your yard to ours. That is why footage and clear photos matter. We discuss pricing with you directly; this site does not publish price sheets or guaranteed offers.

How long does it take to hear back?

Submissions are reviewed as they arrive. If something is missing, such as footage, a readable legend or the loading situation, we will ask for it rather than guess. A complete submission with clear photos is the fastest path to a real conversation.

Is there a minimum quantity?

There is no published minimum, and a single documented reel is a legitimate submission. In practice, freight economics decide whether a small lot makes sense, and we will say so if a load is too small to move economically.

Can I ship instead of having it picked up?

Often, yes. Reels can move LTL on a pallet or by flatbed for larger lots, and we will discuss which makes sense for your footage and loading access. Wire is heavy, so freight class, weight per reel and whether a liftgate is needed all matter.

Do you pick up from job sites and plants?

Pickup and shipping are arranged case by case once the material and price are agreed. Tell us whether there is a loading dock, a forklift, ground-level access, or nothing but a tailgate and a couple of people. Site hours, gate access, escorts and safety orientations are worth mentioning up front because they change the plan.

Photos, logistics and details

What photos should I send?

Four kinds: a wide shot of the whole lot showing how many reels there are; the reel tag photographed straight on; a close-up of the printed jacket legend; and any damage or exposed conductor ends. If a reel is banded and wrapped, photograph the wrap and the tag rather than unwrapping it in the rain.

How much can I upload at once?

The form accepts multiple photos in one submission, up to 10 MB total across all files. If your photos are larger, send a few key shots through the form and email the rest to saleselectricalbuyers@gmail.com with the same company name so we can match them to your request.

Do I need to palletize or prepare the wire?

No. Leave the wire on its reel and keep the tag attached if it is still there. Do not cut bands, unspool cable or strip insulation to “improve” a load. Reels that can be rolled or lifted by forklift tine are easiest, but tell us what you actually have and we will work from that.

What if I do not know the gauge or voltage?

Send the legend photo and the reel tag and mark the fields as unknown. We would rather identify it from a photo than receive a guess that sends the review in the wrong direction.

Do you handle reels that are frozen to the ground or buried in snow?

North Dakota loading happens in February too. Say so if a reel is iced in, behind a snowbank or needs to be dug out, and roughly when it can be freed. It changes the schedule, not the interest.

Who sees my photos and contact details?

Your submission goes to saleselectricalbuyers@gmail.com so the material can be reviewed and answered. The form is processed by a form-delivery service that emails the details and attachments to that inbox. See the privacy page for the specifics.

North Dakota coverage

Do you buy wire anywhere in North Dakota?

Yes, statewide: the Red River Valley and the I-29 corridor, the Bismarck-Mandan and Minot areas, Jamestown and Devils Lake, and the western oil counties around Williston, Watford City, Dickinson, Stanley, Tioga, Beulah and Hazen. We also work with sellers in smaller communities on the same terms.

Do you have an office or yard in my city?

No. This is a buying service covering North Dakota, not a branch network, and we do not claim a physical office in the cities listed on this site. Pickup and shipping are arranged for each load.

I am just outside North Dakota. Can I still send details?

This site is built for North Dakota material. If a load sits just across a state line, describe the location and the material and we will tell you whether it is workable.

Question not covered?

Send the details and ask it in the description box. We answer questions about the material, not just the price.
